About 18 years ago, as the City of Jerusalem extended the Ramat Shlomo neighbourhood, new streets were added and the first families moved in during 2008. The residents organised and founded a community centre to serve this new and fast-growing part of Jerusalem — with a synagogue at its heart.
At first the community met in the private home of the association’s founder and president. With rapid growth, thank God, it moved to a larger temporary home on Shtefanesht Street, where daily prayers, halacha shiurim, a Daf Yomi shiur, a kollel of avrechim, youth and cultural education, lectures, special events and a leadership programme serving Israel and the Diaspora were all added.
A few years ago the City of Jerusalem recognised these efforts and allocated a plot on Shtefanesht Street (shared with another community) for a permanent building — a large, lasting centre for the whole community.
